Memorial Day....A Day To Remember!

Did you know....that Memorial Day was first known as Decoration Day until the name was changed in 1882. The roots of Memorial Day go back to 1865 and the end of the Civil War. The traditional Memorial Day was held on the 30th of May until 1971 when congress changed it to the last Monday in May in order to afford a three day holiday weekend for all of us.

Memorial Day is dedicated to the service men and women who have fought in all the wars past and present. The service men and women who gave, and are now giving, their lives for freedom and country. If it weren't for these brave men and women we would not have the privileges that we so often take for granted. They have won for us the freedom to come and go as we choose, to worship as we choose, and to speak our mind whenever we wish to on any give topic. These men and women have sacrificed so much in the name of freedom. They have left their families behind to serve our country and to preserve our rights as free people.

Take time to remember Memorial Day and what it stands for by attending a parade, or visiting a cemetery to honor and remember our servicemen. Stop in at a VFW or American Legion Hall and say "Thank You" to the vets that made your country what it is today.

Memorial Day also marks the beginning of the summer season, even though summer will not occur until a few weeks later.
